Title: Residential Support Worker (full/part time)

The Nesbitt Centre , formerly known as Hong Kong Vocational Centre, is seeking the following positions to support people with learning disabilities. Applicants should be fluent English speakers, have good communications skills and be able to work successfully as a member of a team.

Residential Support Worker (full/part time)
Location: Chai Wan

Responsibilities:

  • To assist and to support young male and female adults with Special Needs in our residential facility and out in the community while encouraging independence and self-reliance.
  • To coordinate and to carry out designated training, but not limited to domestic duties, at our integrated Life Skills facility and to assist other staff members in our day centre programme
  • The full-time post requires 5 overnight shifts weekly which may include Public Holidays and or weekends
  • To be responsible for pick up and drop off of our service users

Experience and Qualifications:

  • F.5 or above, preferably accredited with Social Sciences or Education.
  • At least 1 year proven work experience in Special Needs in a residential setting or similar environment is required
  • Holders of valid CPR and First Aid certificates are desired
  • We are looking for a reliable, mature and flexible personality with good computer literacy to work in our dynamic working environment

Title: Special Needs Facilitator

Reports To: Programme Director of the Nesbitt Centre

PRIMARY PURPOSE:


To assist with timetabling and scheduling of TNC programme. You will be required to plan, deliver and facilitate sessions as appropriate. You will be assigned a key-worker role for suitable TNC members; as such, you will regularly liaise with parents and caregivers to maintain transparent communication lines between TNC and families.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

You will have teaching, teaching assistant or training experience in an educational setting and should be appropriately qualified. You should have experience of working with learners with special needs and / or in delivering support.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Assisting facilitation of a range of therapeutic groups and activities designed to meet the current needs of TNC members; work placement skills, independent traveling, social skills etc.

2) Demonstrate sensitivity to TNC members¡¦ specific areas of interest (e.g. baking, art, computer skills) and help develop their abilities where appropriate.

3) Assisting facilitation of TNC bus timetable and assist members in their development of independent travelling abilities whenever required.

4) Assisting in inputting of client details/notes, and data gathered throughout implementation of TNC ¡¥preparation for life Programme¡¦.

5) Supervising (as required) members¡¦ mealtimes, breaks and leisure time.

6) Participating in Shared Action planning and Negotiated Transition Planning meetings for assigned Key-members.

7) Participating in weekly staff meetings, facilitated by TNC staff and Team Leader. Duty shifts should be organised to enable attendance as regularly as possible.

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • You should be highly motivated and possess excellent communication, interpersonal and ICT skills.
  • You should be enthusiastic, flexible and empathetic when meeting the disparate needs of those attending the centre.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills are essential.
  • You should have previous experience of working with students from different age ranges and with different educational needs.
  • You should have an ability to work in a professional manner, respecting the boundaries of your relationship with TNC members.
  • You should be able to display appropriate warmth and kindness and remain diplomatic under pressure.
  • You should be able to work as part of a team.
  • You should be able to communicate effectively in English in verbal and written forms.
  • You should be able to instruct in various environments and maintain emotional control under stress.

Performance Review:

Overall performance will be formally assessed and reviewed regularly, with additional informal assessment taking place as necessary.
